Watch Before You Buy a Smart Home Device

Behind the scenes of the Tuya platform: what the manufacturer needs to get right, from firmware to Alexa and Google integration, for a device to work well.

Watch Before You Buy a Smart Home Device

The smart home market has grown and caught the attention of business owners and investors, since less than 1% of homes have automation systems.

Between 2021 and 2022, dozens of companies launched bulbs, switches, modules, sensors, and cameras. The Eletrolar, Intersolar, and Exposec trade shows were proof of that.

Practically all of them chose the Tuya platform, from a Chinese company focused on connecting Chinese manufacturers with distributors around the world by providing a platform for developing IoT devices.

On top of that, the ease of buying, the variety, and the low prices of sites like AliExpress let thousands of people experience the comfort, security, and savings that a smart system offers.

But it's not all roses.

A smart home device, regardless of the communication protocol, is a complex system that involves hardware, software, electronics, design, and usability.

While developing QA's products, I realized that many companies (the vast majority of them Chinese sellers) don't take care of important details that make all the difference in the final solution.

I'm talking about the communication module, the firmware, the features, the integration with Alexa and Google, the translation, the interface, and even the icons in the app.

All of this is the manufacturer's responsibility and, in this video, I show what goes on behind the scenes of the Tuya platform and the care that must be taken to create a quality product.

QA's modules and hubs are available at the QA Store, with resale pricing for businesses. Integrators, installers, and retailers complete the company registration to buy.
